Dangerous, Crazy Politicians

I can’t seem get away from the subject. Right Wing Watch is reporting today on another official endorser of Texas Governor Rick Perry’s The Response prayer rally in August. According to Wikiepedia, John Hagee is founder and senior pastor of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, TX. Cornerstone is a non-denomination megachurch with more than 19,000 active members.

In 2008 Hague endorsed John McCain’s campaign for the Presidency, but McCain broke ties with the pastor when Hague was accused of bashing the Catholic Church. Hague answered, “I’ve learned that some have accused me of referring to the Catholic Church as the ‘great whore,’ of Revelation. This is a serious misinterpretation of my words. When I refer to the ‘great whore,’ I am referring to the apostate church, namely those Christians who embrace the false cult system of Jew-hatred and antisemitism.”[

Yeah, right…

Well, he doesn’t like Pagans either. According to Right Wing Watch, last year at the Word Explosion Conference in Tulsa, OK, Hagee told his audience that “the U.S. military is no longer able to win wars because of Satan worship and increasing ‘paganism’ in America.” There’s no way to “misinterpret” this speech: RRW posted it on their YouTube channel:

They were even kind enough to provide a transcript.

At this point, no one expects Gov Perry to back away from Hagee the way McCain did. The link, however, to the “Endorsers” page has disappeared from the menu on The Response homepage.
